I’ve been covering fly fishing competitions since before there was an official national championship in Slovenia. Back then, there was just a group of fishermen and angling clubs organizing fly fishing competitions all over the country, until they decided they should turn it into a league and so the National Fly Fishing Championship was born. It’s been over 13 years since then. Rules have been changing, but it started out as simple socializing and fishing. And to a certain degree it still is that way. We also have totally different set of rules that the international one. And many fishermen realized that we cannot compete succesfully in international competitions if we keep that system. So in 2011, they called for a change. The loudest call for change so far. It was also the year I decided for a seperate story on the championship. And this is it.
This year, Slovenia is hosting the World Fly Fishing Championship in June.
